Name: Benzie and Manistee residents can help kids in need this Christmas
    Date: October 14, 2016 - November 21, 2016
    Event Description:
During November, Blaine Christian Church, 7018 Putney Road, (corner of Joyfield and Putney Roads), will serve as a collection site where people from Benzie and Manistee Counties can bring their Operation Christmas Child gift - filled shoe boxes for children in need around the world. This annual project is a favorite of many Benzie and Manistee County residents, families, churches, and groups who want to show God’s love to millions of children around the world by filling shoe boxes with toys, school supplies, personal care items, and notes of encouragement. “Operation Christmas Child” is a fun project that makes a tangible difference in the life of a child facing difficult circumstances” says Operation Christmas Child volunteer, Laura O’Connor. “Anyone can participate, whether young or old.” Each Operation Christmas Child shoe box gift takes an amazing journey into the hands of a child in need - and that journey begins with you! From children to seniors, people pack shoe box gifts each year to bless children in need around the world. Parents often use the project to teach their kids about giving. Most of the children who receive these boxes live in poverty. For some children, the gift of a single pencil equals one year of being able to attend school. If you would like to fill a shoe box for a child in need between the ages of 2 - 14, an empty shoe box can be picked up at Blaine Christian Church. For more information, please call Bonnie Putney, 231/499-6788. Participants can also track their boxes online to the country where their box is delivered by using the online donation form at: www.samaritanspurse.org/operation-christmas-child/follow-your-box/ Blaine Christian Church will collect filled shoe boxes during National Collection Week, Monday, November 14, 2016 through Monday, November 21, 2016. Bring your boxes to the church during these collection times: 4 - 7 pm on: Monday, November 14th Wednesday, November 16th Friday, November 18th 1 - 4 pm on: Tuesday, November 15th Thursday, November 17th 9 am - Noon on: Saturday, November 19th Monday, November 21st 5 - 8 pm on: Sunday, November 20th Blaine will pack the shoe boxes in cartons and ship them in time to be delivered by Christmas. Through this local collection site, Benzie and Manistee County residents can contribute thousands of gift filled shoe boxes to meet the 2016 goal of reaching over 10 million needy children worldwide. Other ways you can be involved: (1) donate new, non-liquid and non-food items to the church before November 6th to go in the shoe boxes such as small stuffed animals (clean, like-new beanie babies), pencils, pens, crayons, small coloring books, markers, small notebooks, socks, bars of soap, toothbrushes, non-liquid lip balm, combs, travel size Kleenex, gloves/mittens, small toy trucks, stickers, travel size games, small or inflatable balls, flip flops, sunglasses, etc. (more gift ideas can be found at: www.samaritanspurse.org/occ); (2) donate funds to cover the shipping cost of one or more shoe boxes ($7 each) or donate $105 to cover the cost of shipping a carton of 15 shoe boxes. Since 1993, Samaritan’s Purse has delivered gift-filled shoe boxes to millions of children in more than 150 countries through Operation Christmas Child. For many of these children, a gift-filled shoe box is the first gift they have ever received. Operation Christmas Child is a project of Samaritan’s Purse, an international Christian relief and evangelism organization headed by Franklin Graham. These simple shoe box gifts provide a message that they are loved and not forgotten.
