  • Benzie County,  the smallest county in Michigan, only 316 square miles and located along the shores of Lake Michigan in the northwestern  region of Michigan’s lower peninsula.  Benzie County is rich in natural resources with over 57 inland lakes, rivers, forests and areas of productive farmland. Over 36% of Benzie County is publicly owned state and federal  land. The Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore is truly a national treasure.

    The population of the county as of 2013 of  year round resident is 17,428, a number that expands greatly during the summer season due the numerous seasonal residents.

    In June 2014 the Northwest Michigan Council of Governments (now Networks Northwest) released their annual Comprehensive Economic Development Strategy for the 10-County Region, including Benzie County.  Click here to view or download this report.
