Description
FESTIVAL OF TREES AT THE BENZIE AREA HISTORICAL MUSEUM The Benzie Area Historical Museum will be hosting the Festival of Trees Thanksgiving weekend and auctioning decorated trees, wreaths and table decorations to benefit Habitat for Humanity of Benzie County. Guests bid on items throughout the two-day event held on Saturday, November 30, 10:00 a.m.-6:00 p.m. and Sunday, December 1, 11:00 a.m.-4:00 p.m. Volunteers decorate both real and artificial trees and wreaths as well as table decorations with and without live greenery. All decorations and trees are given a minimum bid with visitors bidding in a silent auction for the piece – or pieces – they enjoy most. On Sunday at 4:00 p.m., the highest bidder for each decorated item will win a tree, wreath or table decoration to take home for the holidays. The Museum will be awash in holiday lights, tinsel and Christmas decorations with Benzie Area Historical Society’s nod to the Twelve Days of Christmas featuring artwork Dorothy Hensel originally created in the mid 60's originally for the local Olsen-Sayles window. The exhibit reflects the artistic talents of Hensel, who is also the prime force behind the creation of the Benzie Area Historical Society and, as this is the 50th anniversary of the founding of the Society, it is appropriate to focus a bit on Hensel. Proceeds from the auctioned trees, wreaths and table decorations will benefit the Habitat for Humanity, and door donations from the two-day event will benefit both Habitat for Humanity and the Benzie Area Historical Society. If you are interested in volunteering at the event or have any questions, please contact Barbara Mort, executive director of the Benzie Area Historical Society, at 231.882.5539.
