Throughout the county there are many family owned small businesses that attract and meet the needs of tourists. In recent years the Benzie County Area Convention and Visitors Bureau was created to increase the numbers of tourists to the area, especially in the spring and fall seasons.
A 31.1 percent population growth between 1990 and 2000 moved Benzie County into the first position in population growth percentage in northwest Lower Michigan. The population grew from 12,200 in 1990 to over 17,000 in 2010. This continuing growth trend offers opportunities to existing local businesses, as well as to new investors to the area.
